New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues Music - What It Means to Me - Dr Moe

New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues - My Take

This video is based on an article I wrote a while ago explaining the roots of my music and how I came to express it in the manner I do.  I am an aficionado of Rockin Blues and have been all my life. I am also an aficionado of Spiritual Inspiratioanal music that has a message for my Heart and Soul as these are my primary guides through life. Putting them together with messages from my Higher Self and Guides seemed easy enough in the beginning and has now evolved to the state where it's the only kind of music I produce.  This explains how I got there.

Choice Making

CHOICEMAKING

Maurice Turmel PhD - The Spiritual Psychologist
(This article on ChoiceMaking has been published on several sites and locations throughout the web since first released in early 2003. It is being re-published here to coincide with this year's TEDx conference in Toronto who's theme is "Making Choices")

We all assume that making choices is a simple process. We see what's in front of us and we choose the best option. That's the way it goes in this choicemaking process. But what if it were not that simple? Because, let's face it, people make the wrong choices every day. The wrong girlfriend! The wrong boyfriend! The wrong destination! The wrong colors, and so on.

Choicemaking is not as simple as it may seem. Smokers continue to smoke. Drinkers continue to exist, would they?

Look At Your Own Life For A Few Moments

See if all your choices have been wise ones. Is there a repeating choice occurring that still produces the same negative result? Why are you still making it? When it comes to Life Choices, then we see that this process is not as simple as choosing the right candy, or movie, or other form of entertainment.

Truly FREE Choicemaking is based on Personal Characteristics, Prehistory and Personal Awareness.

How aware are you of your Prehistory to determine why you may be making the same faulty choices over and over again? Why does a woman continue to choose the same type of abusive man? Why does a man continually succumb to the definitions and desires of others? There's no choice in such examples, only repeating patterns!

But The Fact Is: There is choice

Choicemaking still goes on, even if it's outside our conscious awareness. A part of us is making choices based on - prehistory, old patterns or a familiar expectation like "I never get what I want" or, something similar.

These Are Some of the Common Denominators of Prehistory

As a child you React to your environment. You adopt the Status Quo, that is, how things work in your family of origin. You make unconscious choices based on Survival Value. "If my dad always yells at me when I need something, then I won't "need" and won't ask anymore."

And you give up trying to get that Need Met! Repeat this a few dozen times and see how many things you have given up. And worse, you start convincing yourself "you don't really need it at all!"

The more dysfunctional your Family of Origin is, the more Reactive and Unconscious your choices tend to be. And this is the root of all negative choices. Very few people would consciously choose a situation or pattern with a guaranteed negative outcome. So called "common sense" is about hindsight and stating the obvious. The fact that so many choices are made at a subconscious level, cancels out any so-called fruitful effects of "common sense."

Patterns Return, Familiarity Seems Safer,

Only Because These Are Known

Making a choice for a better Life is tantamount to a Crisis. It certainly is a Crisis for the Part of You that makes your unconscious choices! Some call this part
your "survival side" or your "inner tyrant."He, she, or It, has a big investment in maintaining Control. So you "doze off" or "go numb" when an important Critical Choice has to be made. You re 'still making a choice, only you are "choosing not to choose." And the necessary choice is relegated to your Unconscious Self. You "allow" this unconscious "protector/controller" self to make the choice for you. And then, you see the Same Old Negative Result.Once again confirming "You Are the Victim of Forces Beyond Your Control!"

What Has to Happen on a Conscious Level

for This Pattern to Change?

"Know Thyself" is the key phrase here. And this is no small
order. Even well trained Psychologists can have a tyrannical unconscious self to deal with. It is critical to get to the bottom of this though. One has to see that those unconscious choices:

a) exist and;

b) no longer work.

What once had survival value, during childhood, has now become a detriment to your healthy development as an adult. We’ve all had occasion to say: "he's acting like a child again." Or, “I felt like a child who needed her mother.” These are common enough experiences for all of us to relate to.

The Primary Sign of True Adult Development is Emotional Maturity

This includes the ability to make choices based on the evidence at hand, and not the "programs" from one's prehistory. True Freedom comes when one's childhood, hurtful past is laid to rest. Freedom comes when we take hold of ourselves and declare: "I'm making the decisions from now on -not my old Childhood Self- not my Abused and Frightened Self - not my Victim Self,or any part of me that came into being before I could make conscious choices. In a safe environment we grow up capable of making informed choices. We are allowed to be ourselves.

In Dysfunctional Environments, Conscious Choicemaking is Absent

We react. We resist. We counterattack. And we become passive-aggressive. We identify ourselves as victims, because we feel victimized. And we make limited, uninformed choices based on these need do to survive this stress?"
replaces "What choice would I like to make at this time?" We come to believe that: "we are what is happening to us" The Victim -The Abused One - The Abandoned One, and so on.

Name your Poisonous Identity. These are factual results of various types of domestic tyranny. There are hundreds of self-help books addressing each one of these results.

How do You Change a Reactive Choice to a Free Choice?

You become aware of who you are. Of what happened to you as a child, and what you need now to correct this. You make Conscious Choices to better your life. You seek out resources that will help you untie all these psychological and emotional knots. You Choose to open our self up to the Inner You, the person you are, or could be, had none of the above happened. You choose to get in touch with your full potential, and to clean out all the garbage that no longer belongs. You are choosing Your Freedom!

This Could Be A Long Process Indeed

What's your alternative? To live out your life as a pattern of prepackaged reactions that were triggered by others? Or, to live your life as it could be, given what you now know about cleaning up messes?

I made my commitment 40 years ago, and I still work at it. But it's not so hard anymore, and I have had some fun along the way. I actually enjoyed untangling those knots. As I needed certain things, they came along in one form or another, a good Counselor, a Friend, Great Books, an Inspiring Movie, and so on. As I learned to take responsibility and own my feelings, things improved. I improved. I got stronger. I benefitted from these conscious choices. As I learned to overcome defeat and curtail negative self-references, I gained self-esteem.

As I realized that a part of me ( the tyrant) seemed programmed to harm me, I took away its power and claimed it for myself.

This Is The Hero's Journey From Mythology

Into the Heart of Darkness we go, past the Guard Dog "Cerebus" (inner tyrant) to recover our Essential Self, and become what we can be.It is a long and difficult journey at times, but well worth it in the end. I wouldn't trade my journey for any other experience. That's the level of my commitment and the rewards that come with it.

Whatever it takes. Wherever I need to go. I'll do it. Because, I'm worth it. AND SO ARE YOU!!!

Are you ready to commit to the Full Expression of your Being? Then Time to Get Moving – The Choice is Yours!

New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues

New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues

Maurice Turmel PhD

New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues is music that touches the soul and awakens the heart while offering a contemporary modern feel. This type of Spiritual Inspiration Music moves through our Heart while guiding us to Love, Growth and a direct connection to the Divine within. Because this music touches the Heart, it stirs within us the deeper truth of whom and what we are and our purpose here on Planet Earth. We release our resistances when confronted with music that moves us at that deep emotional level. The Blues style has always been associated with Heart and Soul, because it came from the Black experience in the Southern US and was about healing the pain and suffering those repressed Americans experienced as they attempted to move from their slave status to some form of equality with their white counterparts.

It is a documented fact that Blues style music was taken up by white Americans in the 50s as the then dominant White Music Industry clearly recognized its power to move and engage people. Despite the fact that the White music industry chose to sanitize it for mass audience consumption, the approach still carried enough of that Blues flavor to excite and animate a new population of post war children. That’s when Rock and Roll (a phrase coined by Black artists in the 40s) became a mantra for a new generation, the one I grew up with, as have most North Americans in today’s over 55 population.

My songs, which are served up in this Rockin Blues fashion, come from my heart and, I believe, the Great Beyond, where New Age Spiritual Music resides. I also feel that my music comes from the very same place, emotionally speaking, that was charted by Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, The Platters, and oh yes, Elvis, to name a few. It is this Rockin Blues Beat that I've borrowed to create the musical foundation for the messages I receive daily from my Guidance. Through my Heart and Feeling Centre is how my Higher Self encourages me to express myself poetically and through music. This is my Source of Inner Truth and what I rely on to take me through life as my contribution to this Shifting Age in human history. Who would have thought that I would be creating such music at this point in my life, now in my mid 60s? Certainly not I.

I can also assert that New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues and Psychological Development go hand in hand. They have been part of my life for over 5 decades, as the marriage of 10 years training for a PhD in Counseling Psychology and a lifelong passion for music. I recognize that these two components rely on each other to teach us about ourselves through our emotional responses. At first we are drawn in with the beat. Once we surrender to this soulful vibration, the message in the lyrics makes its way to our heart and feeling center. Because we have opened up, we can receive the song's deeper message. As we are touched, moved and swept along, we are now in a position to change our lives for the better. It is true that a lot of current music is about Anarchy and Devolution, but that is not the case with New Age Spiritual Rockin Blues. This music lifts us up. And as one recognizes the lyrical message supports the truth of one’s soul, it puts us in touch with the Divine within.

Musical vibrations engage us at a cellular level and help us open to our deepest Self. They help us feel our lives and our connection to Source at this core level of being. By following their vibrational call, they help us identify what is ours to bear, in terms of life challenges and wounds to heal, while ultimately preparing us for a life of service. New Age Spiritual Music makes it easier for us to surrender to our Inner Truth and hear our personal Guidance.

Personal and Spiritual growth is all there is you see, and Spiritual Rockin Blues can help you grow to your fullest potential. If these sounds truly resonate with your inner being then nothing can excite you more than music with a beat that is a symbol to your Soul. This music, for me, is a symbol of God’s Love that generates feelings of Gratitude, Expansion and Growth within. This Call to Awakening then presents us with the opportunity of advancing ourselves through our innermost passions and abilities. “Follow Your Bliss” Joseph Campbell has advised.

Here we can speak of Musical Bliss, which is music's power to open us up. By seeking out such music, we align ourselves with our highest vibrations. These then provide us with a view of ourselves from a different perspective, a higher perspective I would suggest. Such a view can be awesome, stupendous, and even scary - because through such a view can we see ourselves soar beyond limits imposed by our society. This brings us back to the revolutionary nature of this music, how it was born in the 40s and 50s via the Black American experience, only to be taken up by White North American kids gearing up for a revolution of their own.

When we add to this Rock’n Roll revolution the sound of a Reggae Beat, then we see another parallel to the suffering that Black American Blues showed us, but this time in the lives of repressed Jamaicans. I was introduced to Reggae in 1965 when visiting Jamaica as a young 20 year old with the Canadian Navy. It was the sounds and lyrics of Bob Marley and company that grabbed my attention then and I have been a devotee every since.

Alongside the new crop of White American Rock’n Roll Stars, there emerged another group of artists ready to blend this blues and reggae music and acknowledge their depth and feel. This was the British Invasion of the 60s and 70s, with bands such as Cream, The Rolling Stones, The Animals and The Police as examples. There were also some great White North American Blues Artists that helped bring  this music forward, (e.g. Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Jake Eells Blues Band and Dutch Mason Blues Band), but they never became mainstream like the British Rockers did.

New Age Spiritual Inspiration Music with a Rockin / Blues / Reggae feel is the path I have chosen to follow. When you listen to my songs you will also hear traces of American Country Rock like the Eagles, 1950s Country Artists such as Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash, cowboy artists like The Sons of the Pioneers and Gene Autry, and the late great Hank Williams Sr who screamed “achy breaky heart” long before Billy Rae Cyrus. This is the musical soup I have been steeped in and the foundation upon which I have grown my musical compositions as I tied them to my psychology training, professional clinical experience and personal spiritual growth efforts.

Am I a New Age Artist? Yes to that! Can I be considered a Christian artist? Some would say yes. Personally, I resonate more with Native Spirituality and their reference to The Great Creator who animates all life, including ourselves. However, there is no excluding how the Word of God presents itself to me through this music, be it Native Spirituality, Christian flavored, New Age Rockin Blues, Reggae influenced or other. I celebrate Life from the inside out and in many respects this music becomes a prayer from my Soul to God's Heart. I invite you to judge for yourself. Have a listen and tell me how you feel. The proof is in the pudding as they say, so dig in!
